Time has come. Warhammer online is in open beta stage (unfortunately "open" means you can only play if you pre-ordered) and will be release on September 18. There will be head start for those who preordered starting at September 15.

I'm really looking forward to it. Mythic wants to focus on PvP aspect and they have experience from their previous MMO, Dark Age of Camelot. I read a lot about Warhammer for past few weeks and reviews and beta testers opinions are rather good. There are still some bugs of course, professions are crap, but from what I've heard they fix them really fast and listen to players opinions.
PvP seems very interesting. You can start it even from first levels, there are scenarios and you get experience & gold from PvP, so there is no need to grind. Endgame is something similar to WoE, but much more developed - you raid evemy cities, fight with their king, defend your cities. There are siege weapons too.
World isn't as big as in WoW or RO, but I believe it's better for world PvP and it means less time wasted for running. Healer classes don't have to just stand and heal, but they can also join fight. Skills cool downs are balanced, fighting with auto attack or spamming one skill is not effective, it requires using many skills.

I'm downloading client right now and I'm going to preorder, so expect some screenshots/movies soon! If anyone else gonna play WAR please let me know in this topic, maybe we could own some noobs together like we used to in RO ^^

I will make Goblin Shaman and maybe Destruction mage/wizard.

What are the rules of interaction between armies? Absolutely no cooperative abilities as in WoW? If I were to start WH I definitely wouldn't like to play something dirty, ugly and green. Quick overview of classes draws my attention to Archmage on path of Isha...

I'm not sure about this. Even after reading lots of articles and reviews, most of them were either WH fanboys or trolls, so I want to try it our myself. Shaman abilities have some AoE aspects, but unfortunately I'm almost sure there won't be anything as epic as full support classes, magnetic earth and AoE fights like in RO.
I've read somewhere that battles in enemy cities will have objectives which keep action in one place (some people say it's zerg fest) and battle with enemy king will be instanced end game.
Destruction seems more fun in my opinion. Goblins are small and ugly, but at least they have careers that fit them, not like gnome tank/warlock in WoW. Unfortunetly you can't have characters in both factions on one server, but Order isn't as disgusting as alliance in WoW and there are some careers I would like to try out too.

I'm most likely going to preorder this game as well, have been excited about it for months! Will play the Beta hopefully also.

Well, each Army starts off in their own little town, but then they have access to the wide world, and join forces to quest/pvp/etc (like in WoW). And I think the PvP rules will be like WoW, servers for PvP everywhere, or servers for PvP in only PvP zones, etc. (like Dark Age of Camelot did).

Also.. while I love Destruction (want a Sorcerer, hehe). It seems that about 2 or 3 times more people may play them.. but that's just the hardcore players that already have it.. the casual players may all go Order (just like in WoW). I like playing as the underdogs, cause playing on the side with more people is too easy and boring. =P

I first heard that it was centered around PvP, like.. you can fully lvl by PvPing only, and you get drops and stuff. Also, you can take over a castle, and plant your guild flag on it, and the entire castle shows your guild crest, etc. Then I saw a video by Paul Barnett, which only made me want it more. And the way he talked about it, how it seems like they listened to players and put in the things they liked, and kept out things they didn't, etc. Plus all the types of things to do... Seems really fun. =)

Also, all priests/support classes have offensive abilities that they're encouraged to use.. like, the more healing spells you use, the more powerful your offensive spells, and the more offensive spells you cast, the more powerful your healing spells. So even healing you'll be doing lots of dmg. Apparently they have DoTs also, so they're like shadow priests that can heal.

Essentially.. Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (or WAR), has normal PvE objectives (like.. go kill bears) but it keeps track of the things you've killed before you even met the NPC, so you don't need to go kill them again (like you do in WoW). There's also massive "public quests" that many people from the same side (Destruction or Order) cooperate in completeing, and the more you help, the more exp you get, and they just repeat over and over. But there's also much more in PvP. There's normal, kill a player in the world map (like world PvP in WoW), there's capturing objectives on the world map (like the towers in Hellfire Peninsula in WoW), there's instanced skirmishes (like Battlegrounds in WoW). The best times I ever had in WoW was when I played on a fresh server, and everyone was doing world PvP and stuff.. like they never do in old servers and it's boring. But here you get more rewards from it, so hopefully it will always be happening. =)

Video that made me want to play, it explains the questing:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/20461.html
Video that explains PvP:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/18334.html
And if this doesn't look bad ass.. you don't have a soul =P:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38373.html

I've been researching and reading about it for a while, so if anyone has any questions, I'd like to try and help. =)

Their biggest problem imho though, is the minimum system requirements: http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warhe ... war?id=168

I'll likely need a new computer in order to play it at low settings, but I need a new laptop anyway, so not too big of a problem, but for other people it may be a reason they can't play.

I finally got in the open beta. I have some feelings about EU WAR company, GOA. They made some crappy website in flash and closed registration till open beta start day, claiming they are prepared for zerg rush and everything will be ok. I've heard they were very bad at supporting previous Mythic game, DAoC, in EU. There were delays in patches and some various problems, but they supposed to improve for WAR. Of course it was total failure. Login didn't work, someone announced on their page that you have to make new account anyway, but making new account didn't work either. Next day they told us that it was misunderstanding, and you can use old account, but login still didn't work. Finally, they made special page to activate without need to log in, but it had some serious problems too. Posts like "it worked locally for me" or "it's only open beta, why so serious" made me laugh.

Anyway, first impression of game is pretty good. Greenskin starting zone is fun, much more than WoW starting zones I saw. There is lot of action around, caves, mobs, groups of dwarfs and most impressive thing: public quest. I was just running around discovering new places when I saw some announcement about public quest. I got to that location using map and saw pop up about open party that I could just join. Then quest started - it had three phases. In first one we had to kill some little mobs that were annoying giant, then we had to collect some beer to motivate him and then last phase - he broke gate to dwarven fortress and we fought some waves of dwarfs plus boss dwarf at the end. Every part gave you influence points, in fight it was for dealing damage and healing, and at the end we all rolled dice, which added to gathered influence and gives loot in order. I rolled two unfortunately, but still got some decent stuff - I could choose from like 8 items - gear, professions stuff and usables. I was useful even as lvl 1 and dying I just respawned after few sec at camp and could run back immediately. Very nice feature is offensive target and defensive target. It allows me to dps when nothing happens and switch to healing immediately (heals are instant after 5 dps skills) and go back to dpsing again. At one wave we had some mobs bugged, but running away a bit and then coming back fixed it and we could kill them. It's very important to fix it like that, I really hated "Evade" or sprite lags in WoW that could be fixed with relog only.

I've played for only 30 min before work so far. I hope more of us will play, so please let me know if you are already in game - playing together is always much more fun!
Edit: server name - Alarielle
My char - Grrr

Nice! Good to know it's actually good and I'm not just hoping too much. =P But that's on par with what I've heard so far. Also, the US part of the game (sites/management/etc.) seems pretty good, maybe we can play there. xP (Hehe, wonder if that would be cheaper anyway.) Anyway, I heard it was a familiar feel to WoW, and changes more as the game goes on, with less grindy parts, and more playability without getting sick of it. Also, that the world was small, and they said they made it that way to avoid the 15 minute long flightpaths or 20 minute long walking across a piece of land for a new flightpoint, and all that slowness that WoW has.

But best of luck and I hope the game only gets better from here. =) I'll hopefully buy my new laptop this week and be able to test out the game as well!

P.S. Here's something I was reading about a transcript of a conversation about people talking about WAR, their first impressions, what they liked, what they didn't, etc. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/08 ... line-beta/ I found it interesting.

Edit: Heh, sorry for all the ramblings.. just been researching this game a lot and excited about it and hope to see you guys there too. They released the pricing (per month subscription) details already, but said they may drop it even lower (here's hoping) maybe it will be less then WoW soon!

Also, interesting name there GvS, lol.

I'm playing since yesterday with couple of friends.

Server: Karak Eight Peaks
Character: Artaud, DE Sorcerer

It's much better than open beta, many annoying bugs fixed. There is little problem with zerg of players though, I had to wait 1h in queue to log on server. Order queue is much smaller :(

Have fun!

Btw, virus raped my laptop (which is why I haven't been on recently), plus bank problems made it so I can't get a new laptop yet, hopefully can order one Monday finally. -.- But my brother has it and I've played a lvl 8 with hunter and lvl 7 shadow warrior and the game is fun.. some annoyances, but I just have more fun playing that then with WoW. Granted, I started out loving WoW a lot too, so we'll see if it continues. =)

I just hate that I want to play Destruction, but I don't want to be on the side that outnumbers the rest.. plus I think most kids are playing Destruction, and all the skilled people are played the underdogs (at least that's what it seems like cause we win almost all the scenarios and hold them off in world RvR a lot, hehe).

Collectors edition headstart for EU was delayed till 3 PM on Sunday, so I'm glad I didn't buy it. CE start worked fine, there wasn't any troubles like in open beta. I've chosen server with many hardcore guilds and it seems many other players did so. To balance server populations there were limits of players, much smaller than normal server cap, and they were adjusting those limits from time to time. On Monday I had to wait almost 2h in 600 queue and crashed after 20 min. Next days queue was much shorter though, just 20 min. Now it's from 5m up to 30 min (around 6-7pm) so it's not so bad.

Initial areas were full of new players, but thanks to open parties feature it was still good to level and public quests were fun. After leveling got slower (around lvl 8) and I got some abilities I started to join scenarios. I was afraid that I will have to wait forever, like in open beta, but surprisingly queues were short and sometimes we got in even instantly. Scenarios exp is awesome if you win fast, much better than PvE quests. However sometimes you lose or both sides struggle and you don't get much exp, but at lest it's still fun. Some scenarios are better than others. T1 and T2 DE scenarios suck. First one is really strange and boring, 2nd one is CTF similar to Warsong Gulch, but with siege weapons. Problem is - there is no flag tracking on minimap, so if you PUG people just fight in the middle. Siege weapons aren't really that great so far. I used some kind of ballista and you just target your enemy and fire. Freaking ballista have homing missiles.

In T2 area, there is RvR region with keep. It's small, but still fun. You can siege it, there are guardians and bosses. Feels like empty castle in RO.

There are still some bugs. I couldn't finish few quests, but nothing serious that ruin fun.

Classes are rather balanced, even at lower levels. It's better than WoW PvP after all those years. It's kinda impossible to make twinks, as you lvl from doing PvP and everyone can buy PvP gear cheap.
