For those of you who are not aware of this fact, the European Football Championships are about too start. One of the first games is Poland vs Germany. We have never won a European Championship match against Germany, and I hope we will finally kick their (your, Clae) asses, but that is not what I wanted to talk about.

While the above article is in Polish the TV commercial itself is in original German version and does not require any language knowledge. It is sad too see, that old stereotypes 'Come visit Poland, your car is already there' are still alive. It makes me wonder - how many of you still see Poland as a country of thieves, drunks, cheaters and slackers? I guess many Polish people will answer 'I do', but I wonder what are the stereotypes abroad in XXI'st century.

Speaking of my personal experience: Yes, in Germany, and especially much here, (probably in some other western countries as well) the bad stereotypes are pretty much all people know of Poland, except maybe if they were on holiday or for whatever reason else there. I hear people at school, people on TV, people on the internet joking about your car or your tires or whatever else being unsafe cause of Polish people. It's sad but from my point of view the bad image is there.
I recall even having a rather hot tempered discussion about this at school when my friend did a stereotype joke. It was back when I used to play with you guys every day so I got a bit offended by him repeating stuff like "all they do is stealing tires" blah blah blah. Me, as someone who has been living for years in a country with no better conditions (Bulgaria) and especially as someone who has spent so much time with Polish people, had you guys as friends, got an image of your life style, about your attitude towards different things, simply as someone who got to know you I cannot say that I share this general prejudice most Germans have. People like Crow and Artaud, and and and, left a real nice impression on me.
So screw the stereotypes, I am sure everybody who gets to know you will realize this like I did :3

I dunno about European countries, but honestly, around here, the main stereotypes/jokes about Poland that I know of are that Germany invaded Poland.. that's about all Americans (the stupid majority) know about Poland. (Of course the Nazi jokes about Germany also.. like my last name is German (great grandparents were) and people ask "are you a Nazi?" *stupid chuckle cause he thinks he's clever*.. god damnit I hate people).

But yeah, though I'm sure most Americans can't locate either on a map as well. -.-

Though wonder what the stereotypes about US are now, lol. Heard a few on Trade chat in WoW the other day, but it quickly degraded into everyone insulting very other European country except their own, heh.

I dont take these kind of ppl seriously. Like, I come from brasil, and most of the dumb ppl here(germany) think brasil is rainforest+sao paulo+rio de janeiro -.-

About poland and car stealing, when i say it i mean it as a joke, and not about the reality in poland.
Maybe it still is reality there about car theft, but i wont judge it coz i wasnt there to see it.

Same about Sao Paulo, of course it could be extremely dangerous to live there, a city where about 65 die a day to violence, but if you know how to live there, it isnt.

I guess it all has about to do with point of view, knowing what you are talking about and not being dumb.
